Tips on finding the right psychologist
How do I find the “right psychologist” to work with?
What can I expect from therapy?
There are several phases to therapy. The initial phase involves a discussion and evaluation of your needs by asking you about your presenting concern(s), goals for treatment, and general psychosocial (medical, mental, family, relationship, employment, etc.) history. By the end of the initial phase, we will determine together if I am the right therapist for you. You should evaluate this information along with your own opinions about whether you feel comfortable working with me. If not, I will provide resources and referrals to other practitioners that may be better suited to help you. If I am a good fit, we will develop a set of goals and steps to achieve those goals. This is called a treatment plan.
The middle phase involves us working actively to make progress on your goals. In collaboration with you, I may use a variety of interventions and methods to help address some of your concerns. For psychotherapy to be effective, you will have to regularly attend your sessions and work on things we discuss during our sessions and at home.
The final phase, aka termination phase, involves the summary of the work before ending our professional relationship.
What is your cancellation policy?
Unless previously discussed, I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Appointments cancelled, rescheduled, or missed with less than 48 hour notice will incur the full session fee.
